Alation makes software that helps companies organize and manage their data. Its main product is a data catalog, a tool for enterprises to sort and consolidate their information. Its Alation Intelligence Operating System, or AIOS, helps make sure AI agents and data tools give accurate results, and Agent Studio lets companies build and automate their own AI agents. Alation is based in Redwood City, California.

Satyen Sangani, Aaron Kalb, Feng Niu, and Venky Ganti started Alation in 2012. By November 2022 the company had grown to over 700 staff members worldwide. That growth from a four-person founding team to a global staff shows a company that has moved well past its early startup stage, which can mean more established processes for a new hire to step into.
