General information

ASX Group operates Australia's main financial market, giving trading infrastructure for equities, derivatives and fixed income securities. Its ASX Clear and ASX Clear (Futures) units handle trade clearing, while ASX Settlement manages equity settlement. The exchange also runs the S&P/ASX 200, an index of the top 200 shares traded on it. ASX Group is based in Sydney, Australia.

Parliament established ASX on 1 April 1987, and in 1998 it became the first exchange in the world to demutualise and list on its own market. As of June 2026 it carried around 2,043 listings with a combined market value of about A$3.2 trillion. That scale makes ASX central to how Australian companies raise money and how investors trade shares.1
