General information

Autodesk makes software for architecture, engineering, and media. Its products include AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, Maya, and 3ds Max. AutoCAD first went on sale in December 1982. The company is based in San Francisco, California.

John Walker and Dan Drake founded Autodesk in 1982 in Mill Valley, California, along with 14 other programmers. It went public in 1985 and now trades on Nasdaq under the ticker ADSK, as part of the Nasdaq-100 and S&P 500. The company moved its headquarters to San Francisco from San Rafael in 2022. As of January 31, 2026, Autodesk has 14,300 employees, $7.21 billion in revenue, and $1.12 billion in net income. That matters: decades of design software sales built a company now large enough to sit in the S&P 500.

Currently, there's a total of 422 job openings at Autodesk. Over the last 30 days, 361 jobs were added and 244 were removed (job postings usually stay up ~12 days before being removed). Autodesk is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
