Axios
Hiring · 32 open jobsGeneral information
Axios is an American news website. It publishes short news articles, most under 300 words, along with newsletters and documentary videos. It was founded in 2016 and launched in 2017 by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen and Roy Schwartz, who had all worked as journalists at Politico. Axios is based in Arlington, Virginia.
Cox Enterprises bought Axios in September 2022 for $525 million. Cox owns 70 percent of the company; the founders and employees own the rest. Axios had about 500 employees in 2022, then reduced its staff by 50 in August 2024. For someone weighing a role there, that shows a smaller, founder-linked newsroom now backed by a much larger media company.
Currently, there's a total of 29 job openings at Axios. Over the last 30 days, 15 jobs were added and 6 were removed (job postings usually stay up ~20 days before being removed). Historically, the median salary is ~$97,500. Axios is an H-1B sponsor.1

Notes & sources
- 1. Company description. Written by InterviewOS from Axios's public materials and press coverage; facts are checked against the sources below.
- 2. Weekly counts. A count is the number of listings the pipeline saw for the first time in that week. Weeks begin Monday; the onboarding week is excluded from the scale and every average.
- 3. Live counts. Deduplicated live listings observed daily on Axios's own hiring system; last check September 12, 2026. Stale and syndicated posts on aggregator sites are not counted.
- 4. Posted pay. Ranges extracted from the text of Axios's own listings; a range appears only when the employer printed one. Extraction is still rolling out, so this table can lag the board.
- 5. Federal visa records. USCIS H1B Employer Data Hub and US Department of Labor LCA disclosure files, matched to this company by name.
