Bessemer Venture Partners is a venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, California, that invests in early-stage and growth-stage companies across many sectors. It publishes Atlas, a set of investment benchmarks and roadmaps, and Cloud Index, an analytics tool for software companies.
The firm traces back to 1911, founded by Henry Phipps Jr., a co-founder of Carnegie Steel. Its venture arm spun out of Bessemer Securities, expanded internationally in 2000, and added a private equity team in 2021. As of 2022 it managed $20 billion in assets with 151 employees, and had backed more than 150 IPOs and 420 portfolio companies. That is one of the longest histories in venture capital, tracing back to a steel fortune more than a century old.
