Block Inc
Hiring · 211 open jobsGeneral information
Block builds technology for economic empowerment, based in San Francisco, US. It operates Square for payment processing, Cash App for mobile payments, Afterpay for buy-now-pay-later purchases, TIDAL for music streaming, Bitkey as a Bitcoin wallet, and Proto.
Jack Dorsey, Jim McKelvey, and Tristan O'Tierney founded the company as Square, Inc. in St. Louis on February 14, 2009. It changed its name to Block, Inc. in 2021 and bought Afterpay for $29 billion in 2022. Block is a public company on the NYSE under ticker XYZ; Dorsey, its Chair and CEO, owns about 10% of it. As of 2024, Block had 57 million users, 4 million merchants, $241 billion in annual payment volume, and about 6,000 employees. That matters: the Afterpay deal pulled a buy-now-pay-later business into a company that started out processing card payments for small merchants.
Currently, there's a total of 193 job openings at Block Inc. Over the last 30 days, 45 jobs were added and 18 were removed (job postings usually stay up ~12 days before being removed). Historically, the median salary is ~$195,200. Block Inc is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
