Catalent

Catalent is a contract development and manufacturing organization for pharmaceutical, biotech, and self-care companies. Its Pharma Services division develops and manufactures drugs, from early design through commercial-scale production. Its Self-Care division makes over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, and personal care products. The company runs 53 locations worldwide and makes about 70 billion doses a year. It is based in Somerset, United States.

Catalent got its name in 2007, when Blackstone Group bought Cardinal Health's pharmaceutical technologies unit and rebranded it. It went public on the NYSE in July 2014, raising $870 million. In December 2024, Novo Holdings bought Catalent for $16.5 billion and took it private again. That year it had 16,900 employees and $4.38 billion in revenue. Going public, then private again within a decade, shows investors want to own drug manufacturing businesses.
