CTB, known as Chiquita, is a banana and fruit producer and marketer operating in 70 countries. It sells bananas, including standard, organic, mini, and red varieties, plus plantains and pineapples. Its Fresh Express brand sells about $1 billion a year in salads, with 40% of the U.S. market. Chiquita is based in Etoy, Switzerland.

Chiquita's roots go back to 1870, when ship captain Lorenzo Dow Baker bought banana bunches in Jamaica. The company formally became United Fruit Company in 1899. Today it is private, owned 50% by Cutrale and 50% by the Safra Group, after a $611 million deal in 2014. It operates in 70 countries with about 20,000 employees. That's a long path from one ship captain's cargo to a modern private company owned by two investment families.
