Denny's started in 1953 as Danny's Donuts in Lakewood, California, founded by Richard Jezak and Harold Butler. In January 2026 the chain went private, bought by TriArtisan Capital Advisors, Treville Capital Group, and Yadav Enterprises for $620 million. It runs about 1,499 locations with 3,800 employees and made $452 million in revenue in 2024. A familiar diner brand is now owned by investment firms instead of public shareholders.
