DNV traces back to 1864, when Det Norske Veritas was founded in Norway. It merged with Germanischer Lloyd, founded in 1867, in 2013 to form DNV GL, renamed DNV in 2021. Since December 2017 it has been fully owned by the Det Norske Veritas Foundation. It employs about 15,000 people across 350 offices.
