It also offers observability tools for log analytics and monitoring, and security tools including SIEM and endpoint protection. Its customers are companies that need to search, monitor, or secure their computer systems.
Elastic was founded in 2012 by Shay Banon, Steven Schuurman, Uri Boness, and Simon Willnauer. It went public on the NYSE under the ticker ESTC in October 2018. As of 2025, it has 3,403 employees; its revenue was $608 million in fiscal 2021. That path from a search tool to a public security and monitoring company shows how far the original idea grew.
