EnergyHub builds software that helps utilities manage distributed energy resources at the edge of the grid and turn them into virtual power plants. Its main product, Mercury DERMS, does this management and coordination. Mercury Edge Connect is a standard way for device makers to connect their equipment to the platform. Utility customers include National Grid, IESO in Ontario, APS in Arizona, Austin Energy and Eversource. The company is based in Brooklyn, New York.
EnergyHub was founded in 2007 by Seth Frader-Thompson, and Time magazine named one of its early products one of the best inventions of 2009. It is now an independent subsidiary of Alarm.com, the Nasdaq-listed security company that acquired it. That matters more than it sounds: Alarm.com's backing lets EnergyHub keep making acquisitions of its own, including Resideo Grid Services and BTR, which added electric-vehicle charging to its lineup. EnergyHub now works with more than 80 utilities, managing 2,900 MW of flexible capacity across the grid. EnergyHub is an H-1B sponsor.1
