Freeport-McMoRan is the world's largest producer of molybdenum and a major producer of copper. It operates the Grasberg mine in Papua, Indonesia, the world's largest gold mine. The company mines and sells copper, gold, and molybdenum to industrial customers. Freeport-McMoRan is based in Phoenix, United States.

The company began in 1912, founded by Eric Pierson Swenson to develop sulfur mining. In 1981, Freeport Minerals Company merged with McMoRan Oil and Gas Company to form Freeport-McMoRan. Since 2018, the Indonesian government has held 51% of the Grasberg mine, with Freeport holding the other 49%. In 2024, Freeport-McMoRan reported $25.5 billion in revenue and 28,500 employees. That means most of the profit from the world's largest gold mine is now split with the Indonesian state.
