General information

Genentech is a biotechnology corporation. It conducts research and development in biotechnology, with a focus on therapeutic drug development. Herceptin, one of its treatments, is used for breast cancer. Avastin treats metastatic cancer, and Rituxan treats lymphomas. Tecentriq is an immunotherapy drug.

Genentech was founded in 1976 by venture capitalist Robert A. Swanson and biochemist Herbert Boyer. Roche acquired the company in March 2009 for about $46.8 billion, and it is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Roche. Genentech has about 12,100 employees and is headquartered in South San Francisco, California. Genentech is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
