In 2021, Hermeus secured $60 million from the U.S. Air Force and venture investors to fund its Quarterhorse aircraft program. In March 2022, it raised a $100 million Series B round led by Sam Altman. That mix of military and private money matters for anyone joining: the company is building both a defense-linked test aircraft and a future commercial airliner at the same time.
