IBM is based in Armonk, New York.
IBM was founded on June 16, 1911, as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company. It took the name International Business Machines in 1924. It trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange, and Vanguard Group is its largest shareholder with 15.7% of shares. IBM employs about 264,300 people worldwide as of 2025, making it one of the largest employers in global technology, with work spanning far more than software alone. IBM is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
