It buys blocks of food and beverage credit from restaurants and resells it to diners through its mobile app, giving users up to 20% cash back at thousands of restaurants. The app also handles bill payment and offers gift cards through Gift inKind. It was founded in 2017 by Johann Moonesinghe, Rajan Moonesinghe, Andrew Harris and Marcus Triest.
inKind has drawn investment from Jay-Z's MarcyPen Capital Partners, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, and all four members of Metallica, an unusual investor list for a fintech company. Its app has more than 5 million downloads and works with over 8,000 restaurants, bars and cafes, and it has provided more than $600 million in funding to over 6,000 restaurants across the U.S.1
