Keith Dunleavy, M.D., founded the company in 1998 in Bowie, Maryland. It was first called MedAssurant, then changed its name to Inovalon in 2012. It went public in 2015 and had 2,500 employees and $527.7 million in revenue by 2018. In November 2021, two investment firms, Nordic Capital and Insight Partners, took it private.
