General information

Instacart is an online grocery marketplace based in San Francisco, United States. It offers grocery delivery from local stores, curbside pickup, and an Instacart+ membership. The service covers 80,000 stores in 14,000 cities.

Instacart was founded on July 1, 2012, by Apoorva Mehta, Max Mullen, and Brandon Leonardo. It went public on Nasdaq as CART in September 2023, raising $660 million at $30 a share and valuing the company at about $10 billion. Instacart has 3,265 employees and about 600,000 independent contractor shoppers, and it made $3.38 billion in revenue. That matters: most people who fill Instacart orders are contractors, not employees, which is why the employee count looks small next to the size of the business.

Currently, there's a total of 123 job openings at Instacart. Over the last 30 days, 73 jobs were added and 66 were removed (job postings usually stay up ~39 days before being removed). Instacart is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
