General information

Jumia is based in Lagos and operates as an e-commerce marketplace, logistics service, and payment provider across Africa. Its platform lets people shop online, with package delivery through local partners. Jumia Travel handles hotel and travel bookings, and JumiaPay is its digital payment system. Customers are online shoppers and sellers across the African markets it serves.

Jumia was founded in 2012 in Lagos by Jérémy Hodara, Sacha Poignonnec, Tunde Kehinde, and Raphael Kofi Afaedor. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in April 2019, under the ticker JMIA. It has partnered with more than 100,000 sellers and individuals. That makes it one of the few African tech companies trading on a major US exchange.
