Kardex

Kardex is a warehouse automation company that builds automated storage and retrieval systems for warehouses and distribution centers. Its Vertical Lift Modules store goods in vertical columns to save floor space, Miniload systems retrieve small parts automatically, and Carousels rotate stored items to a picker. AutoStore uses robots to fetch storage bins, and Kardex also sells warehouse management software. The company is based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Kardex traces its roots to 1898, when James H. Rand, Sr. founded the Rand Ledger Company. The modern Kardex Group formed in 1977. Today it employs about 2,900 people in more than 30 countries, generates €850.4 million in revenue, and trades publicly on the SIX Swiss Exchange. That history means Kardex has been organizing how businesses store and retrieve things for over a century, long before warehouse robots existed.¹
