Neuralink builds brain-computer interfaces. It is based in Fremont, California. Its main product is Telepathy, an interface implanted in the brain. The company also works on Blindsight, a device meant to restore vision for blind people.
Neuralink was founded in 2016 by Elon Musk and eight scientists and engineers. It is a private company, and Musk owns more than half of it. In 2023 the FDA approved human trials. In January 2024, the company completed its first human implant, in a patient named Noland Arbaugh. That matters: Musk's majority stake means he sets the direction, and the human trials show the technology has moved past animal testing.
