Nuro
99 open jobsGeneral information
Nuro is a self-driving technology company based in Mountain View, United States. It licenses the Nuro Driver, an AI-based self-driving system, to automakers and mobility providers for robotaxis and commercial fleets. Nuro has logged over 2 million autonomous miles with zero at-fault incidents.
Nuro was founded in 2016 by Jiajun Zhu and Dave Ferguson, both former Google and Waymo engineers. It launched its R1 delivery vehicle in 2018, bought Ike Robotics in 2020, then in September 2024 shifted from building its own vehicles to licensing its driving software. It laid off 30% of staff in May 2023 and had about 700 employees in 2025. That matters: the shift to licensing means Nuro now depends on other companies choosing to buy its software, not on selling its own robots. Nuro is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
