General information

Panera Bread is a bakery-café chain. It sells baked goods such as bagels, brownies, cookies, croissants, muffins and scones, alongside sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages. The chain operates about 2,178 locations across the United States and Canada. It is based in Saint Louis, Missouri.

St. Louis Bread Company was founded in 1987 by Ken and Linda Rosenthal in Kirkwood, Missouri, and renamed Panera Bread in 1997. JAB Holding Company, controlled by Germany's Reimann family, bought the chain in 2017 for $7.5 billion. Panera reported $6.456 billion in revenue in 2023 and employs about 140,000 people across its operations. That scale means most of the workforce is spread across individual bakery-cafés rather than concentrated at a single corporate office, which matters for anyone picturing what day-to-day work there looks like. Historically, the median salary is ~$58,250. Panera Bread is an H-1B sponsor.1
