The platform also gives creators community tools such as comments and group chats, plus analytics to track their fans. Patreon is based in San Francisco.
Patreon was founded in May 2013 by developer Sam Yam and musician Jack Conte. It has grown to over 80 million users, with about 3 million of them paying patrons who support more than 250,000 active creators. That scale makes Patreon one of the larger platforms built specifically to pay creators directly, rather than through ads. Patreon is an H-1B sponsor.1
