Profluent

Profluent is a biotech company that uses artificial intelligence to design new proteins, work it calls "authoring new biology." Its main product, OpenCRISPR, is described as the world's first gene editor designed by AI. The company also builds protein language models, AI systems trained on large sets of protein data, to create new proteins with chosen shapes and functions. Profluent is based in Emeryville, California.

Profluent says it was first to show that large language models can produce working proteins, and first to design a CRISPR gene-editing system entirely with AI. Investor Jeff Bezos backs the company, according to a November 2025 Forbes article.
