Prometheus is an open source monitoring system and time series database built for cloud-native environments. It lets engineering teams instrument their software, then collect, store and query the resulting metrics. Those metrics feed alerting systems and dashboards that track how applications and infrastructure are performing.
The project is fully open source and community-driven, with code contributed by both official maintainers and outside community members. It is governed as a graduated project of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, so anyone working on it is contributing to a piece of shared infrastructure rather than a single company's proprietary product.
