Red Hat is an enterprise software company that builds open source technology. Its products include Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat AI, and the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, along with consulting, support, and training services. More than 90% of US Fortune 500 companies use Red Hat. The company is based in Raleigh, United States.
Red Hat was founded in March 1993 by Bob Young and Marc Ewing. It went public on August 11, 1999, with the eighth-biggest first-day stock gain in Wall Street history. IBM bought Red Hat for $34 billion on July 9, 2019, and runs it as an independent subsidiary. Red Hat has about 19,000 employees. That matters: IBM's backing gives Red Hat stable funding, while its own operations let it keep serving open source customers on its own terms.
Currently, there's a total of 134 job openings at Red Hat. Over the last 30 days, 127 jobs were added and 241 were removed (job postings usually stay up ~15 days before being removed). Historically, the median salary is ~$172,860. Red Hat is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1

- 1. Company description. Written by InterviewOS from Red Hat's public materials and press coverage; facts are checked against the sources below.
- 2. Weekly counts. A count is the number of listings the pipeline saw for the first time in that week. Weeks begin Monday; the onboarding week is excluded from the scale and every average.
- 3. Live counts. Deduplicated live listings observed daily on Red Hat's own hiring system; last check September 12, 2026. Stale and syndicated posts on aggregator sites are not counted.
- 4. Posted pay. Ranges extracted from the text of Red Hat's own listings; a range appears only when the employer printed one. Extraction is still rolling out, so this table can lag the board.
- 5. Federal visa records. USCIS H1B Employer Data Hub and US Department of Labor LCA disclosure files, matched to this company by name.
