Relativity Space builds reusable rockets, aiming to make getting to space more reliable and routine, not a rare event. Its main rocket, Terran R, can carry up to 23,500 kg of cargo into low Earth orbit. The company is based in Long Beach, California.
Tim Ellis and Jordan Noone started Relativity Space in 2015. In March 2025, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt became CEO and took a controlling interest in the company. Relativity Space now has about 2,000 employees across five U.S. locations, and has sold more than 3 billion dollars in launch contracts before flying a single rocket. That kind of advance commitment from customers is rare in the rocket business.1
