General information

Rothy's makes footwear and handbags from recycled plastic water bottles, for women, men, and children.

Stephen Hawthornthwaite and Roth Martin started the company in 2012, and it launched in September 2016. In December 2021, Alpargatas, the owner of Havaianas, invested $200 million for a 49.9% stake, valuing Rothy's at $1 billion. The company runs 20 stores across 19 countries and a 300,000 square-foot factory in Guangzhou, with about 1,000 employees. It has repurposed over 179 million plastic bottles through a take-back program.
