Don Valentine started Sequoia Capital in 1972, in Menlo Park. The firm invested in Atari in 1975. It was one of the first investors in Apple in 1978. Sequoia expanded to other countries between 2005 and 2009. In 2023 it split into three independent firms. Today Sequoia manages about $56 billion in assets, based on January 2025 data. That history, from Apple to today, is why many founders still want Sequoia in their company.
