Its BearQ product offers autonomous QA agents that continuously explore and check applications for problems. ReadyAPI and Swagger let teams create, document, test and govern APIs. The company is based in Somerville, Massachusetts, and serves more than 32,000 customers with over 1,000 employees.

Jason Cohen started the original Smart Bear in 2003. Insight Venture Partners bought it along with two other companies between 2007 and 2009 to form SmartBear Software, and Francisco Partners took a majority stake in 2017. That ownership history matters: private equity backing has funded SmartBear's growth to 16 million developers using its platform.¹
