It offers personal and student loans, mortgages, investment accounts, cryptocurrency trading, insurance, credit cards and banking services. The company is based in San Francisco, California.

SoFi was founded in August 2011 by four Stanford Graduate School of Business students, Mike Cagney, Dan Macklin, James Finnigan and Ian Brady. In 2021, it went public via SPAC merger, trading on Nasdaq under the ticker SOFI. As of July 2026, the company reported 15.8 million retail customers and approximately 5,000 employees, with annual 2025 revenues of $3.61 billion.1
