Speechmatics builds speech-to-text software. Its APIs turn spoken audio into text for real conversations, not just clean demos. The system works in real time, in under one second, and supports more than 55 languages, accents and dialects. It also tells speakers apart in a recording. Speechmatics is based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Dr. Tony Robinson founded the company in 2006 as Cantab Research Ltd, later renamed Speechmatics. In 2019 it raised £6.35 million in Series A funding from Albion VC, IQ Capital and Amadeus Capital Partners. By 2021 Speechmatics had between 100 and 250 employees and made £11.3 million in revenue. That means a small research company from Cambridge grew into a speech technology business used for conversations in more than 55 languages.
