Stanley Tanger founded the company in 1981, opening the Burlington Manufacturer's Outlet Center in Burlington, North Carolina. Today Tanger employs more than 400 people and reported revenue of $442.6 million. As a REIT, it doesn't sell any of the goods in its stores; it earns money from the rent that retailers pay to operate there.
