General information
Varda Space Industries processes materials in microgravity aboard its own spacecraft, then brings them back to Earth for use in pharmaceuticals and research. Its W-Series spacecraft is built in-house to handle both the orbital processing and the reentry. Varda is based in El Segundo, United States.
Varda was founded in January 2021 by Will Bruey and Delian Asparouhov. In February 2024, its W-1 spacecraft became the first commercial spacecraft to land on a U.S. military test range. As of 2025, the company had about 140 employees and had raised $187 million in funding. Landing on a military test range shows the U.S. government trusts this small startup to test hardware on sensitive land.
