Vevo was founded on December 8, 2009, as a joint venture between Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI. It is a private company. Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group are its majority owners, and Alphabet holds an equity stake in it. Every month, people watch its videos 22 billion times, adding up to 1.5 billion hours. Three record labels, plus Alphabet, control where a lot of music videos get watched online.
