It generates electricity from natural gas, coal, nuclear, solar, and battery storage, with about 39GW of capacity, and it is the largest competitive power generator in the United States. It sells that power to homes and businesses under retail brands such as TXU Energy, Dynegy, Homefield Energy, and Ambit. Vistra is based in Dallas, United States.
Vistra took its current form in 2016, when Texas Competitive Electric Holdings emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It is now a public company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker VST and is part of the S&P 500. In 2024 it reported $17.2 billion in revenue and about 6,850 employees.
