Vontobel started in 1924 as a brokerage called Haeberli & Cie, and Jakob Vontobel took it over in 1936. It has been listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange since 1986, but the Vontobel family and its Foundation still hold majority control. Today it has about 2,310 employees across 27 locations and manages CHF 241 billion in assets. That means it runs like a public company but is still steered by one family, not many separate shareholders.1
