Wealthsimple is a Canadian financial technology company. It offers banking, trading, investing and tax filing services to everyday customers. Wealthsimple Trade is its commission-free platform for buying stocks and ETFs. Wealthsimple Invest offers automated portfolio management built from exchange-traded funds. The company is based in Toronto, Canada.
Wealthsimple was founded in September 2014 in Toronto by Michael Katchen, Brett Huneycutt and Rudy Adler. Power Corporation of Canada holds a 52.4% stake in the company. In October 2025, Wealthsimple raised $750 million Canadian dollars in a Series F round at a $10 billion valuation. It now employs over 1,000 people, serves more than 4 million Canadian customers, and holds over C$100 billion in assets. That means one shareholder still controls more than half the company, even as it keeps raising money from outside investors.
