General information

Zurich Instruments makes test and measurement instruments with software, used in scientific research and quantum computing. Its Quantum Control System, called ZQCS, helps scale up quantum computers. Its Lock-in Amplifiers measure signals from 50 MHz to 8.5 GHz. Its Impedance Analyzers check materials and devices. The company is based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sadik Hafizovic, Flavio Heer, and Beat Hofstetter, three former ETH Zurich employees, founded the company in April 2008 as a spin-off from the university. It was a privately owned company. In June 2021, Rohde & Schwarz bought it outright. That gives Zurich Instruments a bigger parent to fund new products, while it keeps building the precision tools that quantum computing researchers need.1
