The Brennan Center for Justice is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that works to strengthen American democracy through research, advocacy and public education. It focuses on four areas: voting and elections, keeping voting accessible; money in politics, addressing campaign finance and corruption; criminal justice, focused on prison reform; and the courts, including Supreme Court reform and judicial safety. It is affiliated with New York University School of Law.
It was founded in 1995 by the family and former law clerks of Supreme Court justice William J. Brennan Jr. In 2024 it had revenue of $57.9 million and an endowment of $313 million, a solid financial base for a nonpartisan policy institute.1
