Chevron traces its roots to 1879, when the Pacific Coast Oil Company was formed. It took the name Chevron Corporation in 1985. Institutional investors own about 70% of its shares, including Vanguard at 8.70%, BlackRock at 6.98%, and Berkshire Hathaway at 6.79%. In 2024 it had 45,298 employees and revenue of $202.7 billion, and it ranked 10th on the Fortune 500 in 2023. Chevron is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
