General information

FREENOW is a mobility app that offers taxis, ride-hailing, eScooters and eBikes across Europe. It operates in more than 150 cities and 9 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. It also runs pickup points at 50 European airports. The company is based in London.

FREENOW started as mytaxi, founded in 2009 by German entrepreneurs Niclaus Mewes and Sven Külper. Lyft, the US ride-hailing company, bought FREENOW for €175 million in July 2025. That ties FREENOW's future to a much bigger American parent. About 1,000 people work at the company.¹
