FREENOW started as mytaxi, founded in 2009 by German entrepreneurs Niclaus Mewes and Sven Külper. Lyft, the US ride-hailing company, bought FREENOW for €175 million in July 2025. That ties FREENOW's future to a much bigger American parent. About 1,000 people work at the company.
