The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints founded the system on April 1, 1975, by donating fifteen hospitals. In 2022, Intermountain merged with Colorado-based SCL Health to expand into a new state. Today it employs about 68,000 people and runs 33 hospitals and 385 clinics. The system has grown through mergers as well as by building new hospitals and clinics.¹
