The company was founded in 2008 by Lew Cirne, whose name is an anagram of the company name. It's currently private after Francisco Partners and TPG bought it for about $6.5 billion in November 2023. As of 2023, New Relic had 2,663 employees and $926 million in revenue. That buyout means it now answers to private equity owners instead of public shareholders. New Relic is a top-tier H-1B sponsor.1
