Syngenta formed in 2000, when Novartis Agribusiness merged with AstraZeneca Agrochemicals. In 2017, the Chinese company ChemChina bought Syngenta for $43 billion. Sinochem, a Chinese state-owned company, now owns Syngenta. In 2025, the company reported revenue of about $17 billion. That means a large part of the world's food supply now runs through a Chinese state-owned company.
