It generates electricity through a mixed-fuel fleet of nuclear, natural gas, coal, and oil plants, and supplies power to data centers, particularly for artificial intelligence facilities. Its flagship site is the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, which generates 2.5 gigawatts.
Talen Energy was formed in 2015 through a merger of PPL Corporation's power generation business with assets from the private equity firm Riverstone Holdings. It is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and operates roughly 15.7 gigawatts of generation capacity across 14 sites in 5 states, with about 2,000 employees. That means a relatively small workforce running a large share of the grid feeding the AI data center boom.1
