The company was formed on June 27, 2007, through a merger of Unibail, founded in 1968, and Rodamco Europe, founded in 1999. In 2018, it acquired Westfield Corporation's US and UK operations for about $24.8 billion, adding the Westfield brand to its portfolio. As of 2024, it is the largest commercial real estate company in Europe, with 3,100 employees and a €49 billion portfolio. That single deal turned a European mall operator into a global one.1
